History

It all started in 1935, when a group of Pratt & Whitney employees—builders of aircraft engines—came together to create something just as powerful: a credit union rooted in trust. While banks were failing during the Great Depression, they launched East Hartford Aircraft Federal Credit Union (EHAFCU) to help their coworkers save, borrow, and get ahead. Now, decades later, American Eagle Financial Credit Union is still focused on uplifting our community. What began with 15 founders and a bold idea has grown into Connecticut’s largest community credit union — still proudly member-owned, still fully committed to your financial freedom.

1935 - A group of Pratt & Whitney employees established a credit union rooted in trust.

1996 - Renamed American Eagle Federal Credit Union – expanding our membership and mission beyond our Pratt & Whitney roots. 

2006 - We welcomed individuals and businesses across Hartford, Middlesex and Tolland counties. 

2015 - With a new state charter, we became American Eagle Financial Credit Union, opening membership in New Haven County. 

2019 - We expanded into Hampden County, Massachusetts, strengthening our regional reach. 

2024 - We merged with Wellness Federal Credit Union, proudly serving Connecticut’s healthcare community past and present.
