Not-for-profit and member-owned

American Eagle Financial Credit Union is a full-service financial institution offering products and services to help you achieve your financial goals. We are a not-for-profit cooperative that has served generations of members since 1935. The Credit Union is owned by its members, people just like you. That means we work hard every day on your behalf to pay the highest possible rates on Savings accounts, charge the lowest possible rates on loans, and keep our service fees to a minimum. The Credit Union’s strategic direction and policies are carefully managed by an eleven-member, Board of Directors, who are elected and serve as unpaid volunteers.

105,000 members strong & over $1.4 billion in assets

American Eagle FCU is currently the largest community credit union in Connecticut with over 105,000 members and $1.4 billion dollars in assets. The Credit Union operates 17 branches in Central Connecticut. Deposits are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).

Historic beginnings at Pratt & Whitney

The Credit Union was founded in January 1935 by Harry C. Smith, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft's Employment Manager, and 14 fellow employees. These individuals worked hard to bring East Hartford Aircraft Federal Credit Union to Pratt & Whitney to serve the credit needs of its employees. The Great Depression allowed credit unions like EHAFCU to prosper by providing secure alternatives to banks, since many banks failed under the economic hardship of the times. As the Credit Union began offering savings and loans to PWA employees, membership grew, and so did the range of products and services.

Name change and community charter

In 1996, East Hartford Aircraft Federal Credit Union changed its name to American Eagle Federal Credit Union to reflect a broadened field of membership and expanded branch network. In July 2006, the Credit Union was approved for a community charter to serve persons who live, work, worship, attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in Hartford County, Middlesex County, or Tolland County, Connecticut. On December 31, 2014, the name changed from American Eagle Federal Credit Union to American Eagle Financial Credit Union. This subtle change is the result of the conversion from a federal-charter to a state-charter. The Credit Union now also welcomes the individuals and businesses of New Haven County in Connecticut into our expanded field of membership.
