Community Outreach Highlights, September 2009


In September 2009, American Eagle Federal Credit Union donated a total of $4,500 to support and enhance the communities we serve in Hartford, Middlesex, and Tolland counties. 

 

Klingberg Family Centers, Antique Auto Show ($1,000) (Hartford County)

American Eagle Federal Credit Union was the proud silver sponsor of the Klingberg Family Center's 17th Annual Antique Auto Show which will be held on Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in New Britain, Connecticut. Klingberg Family Centers is a private nonprofit organization that services more than 2,500 persons each year from across CT. Klingberg extend help and hope to children and families whose lives have been traumatized by abuse in various forms, server family problems, abandonment and emotional/behavioral problems. Its mission is to build healing relationships that empower children and families to reach their full potential. 

 

Leukemia/Lymphoma Society ($2,500) (Hartford, Middlesex, and Tolland counties)

American Eagle donated $2,500 to the Leukemia And Lymphoma Society's (LLS) in conjunction with AEFCU Board Member, Raymond Gandy, who successfully swam across the English Channel in August. Gandy raised a total of $5,585 for LLS. LLS's mission is to cure leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life patients and their families in CT and across the US and Canada.
 

South Windsor Police Department ($500) (Hartford, Middlesex, and Tolland counties)

American Eagle Federal Credit Union donated $500 to the South Windsor Police Department towards the purchase of child car seats to be distributed to families-in-need at child car seat inspections throughout CT.

 

East Hartford ChildPlan, Inc. ($500) Hartford County

American Eagle Federal Credit Union donated $500 to East Hartford ChildPlan, Inc. East Hartford ChildPlan proactively collaborates with the East Hartford community to improve the quality of the lives of its children and families.

 

P&W / United Way Runway Race/Walk ($200) Hartford County

American Eagle FCU was a Bronze sponsor of the Pratt & Whitney United Way Runway Race & Fitness Walk which was held on October 1, 2009, at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.

 

Plainville Association of Retarded Citizens, Inc. (PARC) Plainville

American Eagle FCU donated 100 pads, pens and small goody bags for the PARC 9th Walk-A-Thon that was held on Saturday, September 26 at Norton Park in Plainville. This event's goal is to raise funds to offer family centered services to people with development disabilities.

 

 

Employee Volunteerism

A total of 73 Credit Union employees volunteered a total of 336 hours for three events during September. From January through September, 116 different employees have volunteered a total of 1,018 hours. Thank you to all the volunteers for you outstanding efforts.

 

United Way One Day of Caring (Vernon) - 170 hours

On Friday, September 11, American Eagle FCU employees participated in the annual United Way Day of Caring event at Hockanum Industries, a small non-profit agency at 40 Hale Street in Vernon. AEFCU employees weeded, trimmed bushes, scrapped rails, repaired ramps, painted rooms, and cleaned the basement. The twenty-three volunteers were Chris Alex, Chris Apruzese, Tina Augeri, Joe Augusta, Peter Axiak, Chris Binaco, Teresa Bimonte, Paul Boyer, Susan Bushnik, John Conant, Carol Cowles, Danny Davis, Jason, Grenstiner, Scott Halstead, Brian Kennedy, Nernomie Mocarsky, Rich Marinelli, Nancy Petersen, Linda Reale, Rick Schneider, John Scott, Susan Waide, and Amy Washburn.

 

Since 1979, Hockanum Industries has provided opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to find and maintain rewarding jobs in the community and helps them form long-term friendships. Hockanum helps its over 40 workers strengthen their talents while earning a paycheck. It operates a shredding business, a greenhouse, and sends a janitorial cleaning crew to businesses in Tolland County. In addition, a handful of people with intellectual disabilities complete local business mailing assignment in-house.

 

JDRF Walk (East Hartford) - 127 hours

On Sunday, September 20th, 38 American Eagle FCU employees volunteered or walked during the JDRF Walk held at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Volunteers set up tables and chairs, helped register walkers, count money, and walked to raise money to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes. Many family members and friends including dogs joined with American Eagle walkers at this event. The JDRF Walk draws people together in a healthy activity for a worthy cause, raising money to help find a cure for diabetes. Employees and the member sneaker sale raised over $10,000 for JDRF. Employees who walked or volunteered this year were: Alison Govoni, Angela Jambard, Anita Castora, Ashley Lemieux, and Beverly Piper. Bill Dokas, Brian Kennedy, Chris Apruzese, Christine Binaco, Cheryl Ross, Dean Marchessault, Gary Peck, Gerlinde Orfitelli, Gladys Schmitt, Jennifer Long, Jessica Mazzaccaro, Jessica Rioux, Joe Augusta, Karen Lechowicz, Kerry Patches, Lauren Jedidian, Linda Stanley, Lori Kraft, Louise Benson, Louise Holden, Louise Kovi, Maria Cote, Nicole Lambrano, Pam Villanova, Rich Marinelli, Rick Schneider, Sarai Ledoux, Sharon Mitchell, Shaundra Byrd, Stacey Martin, Tammy Cloud, and Teresa Knox.

 

Child Car Seat Safety Inspection (East Hartford) - 45 hours

On Thursday, September 24, 2009, American Eagle FCU hosted free child car seat safety inspections for 3 - 6 p.m. at the East Hartford Main Office. Certified child passenger safety technicians from the South Windsor and East Hartford Police departments provided educational and hands-on instruction for installing child safety seats in vehicles. Thirty- eight car seats were inspected, installed, or replaced during this successful event. The Connecticut Science Center, East Hartford ChildPlan, Inc., and the East Hartford Fire Department also participated. Thirteen AEFCU volunteers helped set up before the event while others greeted and directed participating members and provided refreshments and goodies. Thanks to the volunteers including Ana Maranzano, Anita Castora, Candi Bove, Dorca Rodriguez, Joe Augusta, Kitty Arnold, Louise Kovi, Paul Boyer, Rick Schneider, Sarah Schneiderman, Susan Dill, Susan Waide, and Teresa Bimonte.
