Community Outreach Highlights, May 2009


In May 2009, American Eagle Federal Credit Union donated a total of $7,100 to support and enhance the communities we serve in Hartford, Middlesex, and Tolland counties. 

 

CT Credit Union Charitable Foundation Dick Abely Memorial Golf Tournament

For the past 22 years, this event has enabled the Charitable Foundation to distribute money to local food banks and other charitable organizations on behalf of Credit Unions in Connecticut. 

 

New Seasons, Inc., Manchester

The New Seasons Charity Golf Tournament was held on May 15, 2009, at Elmcrest Country Club in Longmeadow, MA. New Seasons provides state-of-the-art care and support for persons with cognitive and physical disabilities in the Greater Manchester area. This not-for-profit organization strives to maintain optimum health for individuals in its care while offering life enriching activities.

 

Junior Achievement, Hartford

American Eagle FCU is proud to help Junior Achievement bring financial literacy and workforce readiness programs to children in Connecticut. The Credit Union supports Junior Achievement financially and through our employee volunteerism during JA Days at schools in Hartford, Middlesex, and Tolland counties.

 

Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Bloomfield

American Eagle FCU sponsored a team of employees who participated in the Fidelco Guide Dog Walk at Manchester Community College on Saturday, May 16, 2009. The proceeds are directed to the foundation for core services that include breeding, training, placing guide dogs, and client follow-up.

 

East Hartford High School, Academy of Finance Scholarships, East Hartford

The Academy of Finance at East Hartford High School is a two-year financial education program that offers selected EHHS juniors and seniors with a firsthand look at careers in the financial services industry. Students have the opportunity to gain work experience through paid internship positions including American Eagle FCU. The Academy of Finance uses donations to provide scholarships for deserving East Hartford High School college-bound seniors who are enrolled in the Academy of Finance program. Afua Korankye and Daniellie Sailer, employees at the EHHS branch, were recipients of scholarships funded by the Credit Union.

 

 

Employee Volunteerism

Thirty different Credit Union employees volunteered a total of 149 hours during May. From January through May, 53 different employees have volunteered a total of 447 hours in the community.

 

Children’s Home of Cromwell Golf Tournament, Middlefield

Eleven employees worked at The Children’s Home Golf for Kids on Monday, May 11, 2009, at Lyman Orchard’s Golf Course in Middlefield. The Children’s Home in Cromwell is a child and family-centered organization that cares for struggling families and children seeking the comfort of a loving family.

 

Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation’s Walk, Manchester

Ten employees participated in the Fidelco Guide Dog Walk at Manchester Community College on Saturday, May 16, 2009.

 

Reading and Financial Literacy, East Hartford, Manchester, and Farmington

Eleven employees participated in reading and financial literacy activities at Willowbrook School, East Hartford High School, Cheney Technical High School, and Manchester High School.
