Community Involvement Community Outreach Highlights, August 2009
JDRF Walk for Diabetes (East Hartford) $5,000 American Eagle Federal Credit Union was the proud gold sponsor of the JDRF Walk which was held Sunday, September 20 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Over three million Americans have type 1 diabetes. This disease is most often diagnosed in childhood that strikes suddenly, lasts a lifetime, and carries the constant threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and amputation. JDRF's mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Thanks to dramatic research progress, a cure is now within our reach.
MARC of Manchester Golf Tournament (Manchester) $150 American Eagle Federal Credit Union was a Tee sponsorship at the MARC, Inc. Annual Golf Tournament on August 20 at Manchester Country Club.
United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut-2009 Day of Caring Sponsorship (Hartford) $2,000 American Eagle Federal Credit Union was a Helping Sponsor for the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut's day of Caring Campaign.
East Hartford Shelter (East Hartford) American Eagle Federal Credit Union donated two television sets to the East Hartford Shelter.
East Hartford Rotary Club (East Hartford) American Eagle donated school supplies including paper, pens, and pencils to the East Hartford Rotary Club for distribution at local East Hartford schools
United Technologies Corporation Fire and Security (Farmington) American Eagle Federal Credit Union donated 100 pads, pens, and flyers which were distributed to golfers and volunteers at the United Technologies Corporation Fire and Security's United Way Golf Outing held August 19th at the Gillette Ridge Golf Course in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
Employee Volunteerism Eighteen different Credit Union employees volunteered a total of 92 hours during August. From January through August, 75 different employees have volunteered a total of 682 hours. Thank you to all the volunteers.
Habitat for Humanity (Hartford) 40 hours; 5 employees American Eagle Federal Credit Union was proud to partner with Hartford's Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, August 1, 2009, from 7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Five American Eagle employees and family members participated in Habitat's Neighborhood Build at 43 Guildford Street in Hartford. Habitat is currently building seven houses on Guilford Street. Credit Union employees who volunteered were Brad Hughes, Brian Kennedy, Ellen Messina, Nancy Petersen, and Alex Wicz.
FoodShare Regional Market (Hartford) 32 hours; 8 employees On Saturday, August 8, eight employees and other family members and friends inspected and repacked fresh vegetables at FoodShare's Regional Market in Hartford. Volunteers were Sarah Brochu, Jennifer Cowles, Terri Donahoe, Brian Kennedy, Rich Marinelli, Debra Plourde, Cheryl Ross, and Gladys Schmitt.
FoodShare Gardens (Bloomfield) 2 hours; 5 employees On August 20, five American Eagle Federal Credit Union employees, a family member and friend planted weeded, cultivated, and harvested vegetables which were all given to hungry people. In partnership with 4-H Education Center at Auer Farm and UConn's Master Gardeners program, FoodShare maintains a 3/4 acre garden at Auer Farm. American Eagle gardeners were Steven Melnik, Suela Mucka, Kalina Nowak, Susan, and Kim Winter.
