Community Involvement American Eagle Federal Credit Union Donates $2,000 to Literacy Volunteers of Northern and Central Connecticut
EAST HARTFORD, CT – American Eagle Federal Credit Union donated $1,000 each to Literacy Volunteers of America’s central and northern Connecticut chapters. In addition, seven employees participated in the fourth annual scrabble challenge hosted by the northern chapter on April 24, 2008, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Enfield.
According to William H. Dokas, President & CEO at American Eagle FCU, the Credit Union is happy to support Literacy Volunteers of America in central and northern Connecticut. “Literacy Volunteers of America does a wonderful job helping improve lives of Connecticut residents through English literacy,” Dokas said.
The Credit Union scrabble team was organized by Enfield Branch Manager Cheryl Ross. “We all had a wonderful time at the event and were pleased that the Credit Union was a lead sponsor for this worthwhile cause,” said Ross.
According to Darlene S. Hurtado, Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of America in Central Connecticut (LVCC) donors like American Eagle FCU help students achieve their goals such as getting a job, advancing their current job, enrolling in advanced education, helping their children or grandchildren with schoolwork, and being able to read a book written in English for the first time. Last year the Central Connecticut Chapter served 479 students with the help of 207 volunteer tutors and the Northern Chapter served 65 students with the help of 45 volunteer tutors.
