Credit Union Employees team up with Junior Achievement Day as Volunteer Teachers at Assumption School in Manchester

Four AEFCU employees (Bill Marsh, Susan Waide, Chris Willey, and Jennifer Little-Geer) became teachers for a day at Assumption School in Manchester in March 18, 2008.

AEFCU teamed up with Junior Achievement to educate first, second and fourth graders about the: 1. the role money plays in society; 2. what they need to know about sharing, saving, and spending; 3. how to become a smart consumer; and 4. how to earn income by starting a business.

The Junior Achievement Our Families’ curriculum was presented to the first graders by Chris Willey. This program emphasizes the roles people play in the local economy and engages the students with activities including understanding needs versus wants, identifying jobs in the community, and job tools and skills they need, and how people in a community depend on each other.

The Junior Achievement Our Community curriculum was presented to the second graders by Jennifer Little-Greer. This program explores the interdependent roles of workers in the community, the work they perform, and how communities work. The students also learned the basics of how to run a donut shop and about mass production.

The Junior Achievement Dollar and Sense curriculum was presented to the fourth graders by Bill Marsh and Susan Waide. Students learned about earning, spending, sharing, and saving money. They also explored businesses they could start and jobs they can do to earn money now and in the future (March 2008).
