Using Your Credit or Debit Card Outside the United States

Before you depart on your next vacation or business trip outside the United States, American Eagle would like to share some important information about your credit and debit cards.

When using your Credit Union VISA credit card and/or debit card outside the U.S., the fraud monitoring system in place for your protection may be activated. This means that your cards could be declined while trying to make purchases in a foreign country.

To avoid this situation, we recommend that you call our Member Contact Center at 800.842.0145, ext. 5101, at least one week before departure and provide us with the dates and destinations. By notifying the Credit Union in advance, we can take steps to avoid your credit and/or debit card from being blocked against purchase transactions during your foreign trip.

American Eagle FCU has blocked the use of our VISA credit and/or debit card in the following countries due to fraud:

CREDIT CARD BLOCKED COUNTRIES
Balkans, Belarus, Burma (Myanmar), Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Liberia, Mexico, North Korea, Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Syria, United Kingdom, and Zimbabwe.

DEBIT CARD BLOCKED COUNTRIES

Balkans, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Burma (Myanmar), Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Croatia, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Macedonia, Mexico, Montenegro, North Korea, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, and Zimbabwe.

Using Your Debit Card at an ATM (Automated Teller Machine) Outside the United States

Due to extensive fraudulent activities in the use of ATM’s abroad, your debit card may not work at a blocked foreign country’s ATM (Automated Teller Machine) to make cash withdrawals using your PIN. We cannot unblock the use of ATM’s in these countries.

ATM BLOCKED COUNTRIES

Philippines, Romania, Russia, and Spain.

You may use your debit card to make a cash advance at a financial institution in the country you are visiting.

Effective April 2008, VISA USA will begin to charge a .8% International Service Assessment on international transactions. If there is a currency conversion, the International Service Assessment is 1% of the transaction.

Thank you.
