(October 20, 2009) Linda Klemba of Middletown, CT, was the winner of a 2009 Smartfortwo Passion Coupe from American Eagle Federal Credit Union. Klemba was selected randomly from over 2,200 official entries during the Credit Union’s “Bank Smart, Drive Smart” summer membership promotion held July 20, 2009, through September 19, 2009.

Klemba was presented with the keys to her new Smart Car by American Eagle FCU President & CEO William Dokas during a celebration at the Credit Union’s Cromwell branch on Hammerhead Road.

Klemba became eligible for the grand prize drawing by making a new member referral. “We had been saving money for my daughter Brandy. When she turned 18 this summer, we decided to set her up with her own credit union account. I brought her to the Cromwell branch where she opened a checking and savings account,” said Klemba.

When Linda was contacted about winning the Smart Car, she initially thought it was a hoax. “At first, I thought that it was one of my son’s friends playing a joke on me. Once I realized that it was for real, I was shocked and excited at the same time,” she said.

Klemba has been a member of American Eagle Federal Credit Union for 18 years. In that time, Linda has talked about the virtues of the Credit Union to many of her friends and family, some who have since become active members themselves. She credits the friendly service, competitive rates, and convenience as the main reasons for her satisfaction and loyal membership. “We especially like the branch in Cromwell and the branch at my husband’s job at the United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford,” she added.

Klemba is a stay-at-home mom. Her husband Joseph is an Engineer at Pratt & Whitney and also a long-time Credit Union member. The Klemba’s have raised five children: Mathew, Eric, Seth, Chaz, and Brandy, and a grandson, Zackary.

When Joseph Klemba’s job moved the family to Europe, the Klemba’s lived in Poland for three years. While in Poland, they saw Smart Cars on the road every day. “Although it’s small, we saw some crash tests reports which showed that the car was safe to drive. So we feel good about its safety and about owning the car,” said Joseph.

With two children heading off to college next year, the Klemba’s know that their new Smart Car will be put to good use. In the meantime, Joseph will drive the Smart Car. "The 40 miles per gallon will help with his daily commute from Middletown to East Hartford,” said Linda.
