COLLECTION SUPERVISOR
 

            

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for supervising the Collection Department providing leadership for employees, promoting employee development and fostering a team environment.  Ensures efficient operations through prompt, quality support of the Collections function.   Provides daily supervision of direct reports and the on-going review of department activities. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises and monitors the efficiency of the daily activities of the Collection Department.  Monitors and reviews department activities ensuring compliance with Federal and State Laws, internal controls and Credit Union policies and procedures, in addition to achieving quality service standards in service to our members.  Recommends and assists in the implementation of new policies and procedures as warranted.

  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and resolving problems. Develops annual coaching plans for direct reports.  Conducts performance reviews for each assigned direct report and submits salary increase recommendations.

  • Maintains active control over assigned delinquent or problem deposit and loan accounts.  Contacts members to discuss account status and determine payment arrangement suitable to the Credit Union and the member.  Researches and contacts members to resolve issues relative to short payments, terminated/retired payments and uncollected payments.  Responsible for maximizing recovery payments.

  • Handles delinquent Real Estate loans in accordance with applicable law, closely monitoring the process through pre-sale or foreclosure in order to minimize losses to the Credit Union.

  • Recommends the write-off of loans judged to be uncollectible.  Reviews terms of loan contract and legal requirements to determine and recommend appropriate method of collection (i.e. Collection Agency, Attorney, etc.).  Prepares accounts for write-off and review.

  • Prepares monthly lending delinquency, risk based delinquency, and negative share reports for Vice President, Lending. Prepares monthly write-off summary reports for presentation to the Loan Advisory Committee.

  • Handles the repossession, sale and disposition of collateral according to state statutes.  Completes necessary paperwork with Bankruptcy Courts to protect Credit Union interests.  Actively pursues legal deficiency balances.

  • Works closely with vendors such as attorneys, repossession companies, and collection agencies to best represent the Credit Union and ensure proper service levels are being met for members.

  • Serves as a resource to members, co workers, officers, other departments and auditors relative to consumer and VISA loan collection and cash payment issues.  Provides financial counsel to members.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises employees in the Collection Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, coaching, developing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems through a process of on-going communication.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, attorneys and vendors

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest and percentages.         

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

None required.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to operate a personal computer with a high level of proficiency in such software applications as word processing, spreadsheets, Internet and Email.  Ability to operate a fax, calculator and copier.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
