About AEFCU

American Eagle Sign Our History
American Eagle Federal Credit Union was founded in 1935 by Harry C. Smith, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft's Employment Manager, and 14 fellow employees. They worked hard to bring East Hartford Aircraft Federal Credit Union (EHAFCU) to Pratt & Whitney to serve the credit needs of its employees. The Great Depression allowed credit unions like EHAFCU to prosper by providing secure alternatives to banks, since many failed under the economic hardship of the times. As the Credit Union began offering savings and loans to PWA employees, membership grew, and so did the range of products and services.

In 1996, East Hartford Aircraft Federal Credit Union changed its name to American Eagle Federal Credit Union to reflect the broadened field of membership and expanded branch operations in Connecticut.

Today, American Eagle is the largest federal credit union in Connecticut with over 96,000 members and $1 billion dollars in assets. The Credit Union operates 17 branches in Central Connecticut. Deposits are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).

On July 31, 2006, American Eagle was approved for a community field of membership that includes persons who live, work, worship, attend school in and businesses and other legal entities located in Hartford County, Middlesex County, or Tolland County, Connecticut.
